The City of Brookings is accepting applications for City funds for the 2021 Fiscal Year. Funding applications and guidelines are available online at www.cityofbrookings.org or at the City Clerk’s Office, Brookings City & County Government Center, 520 Third Street, Suite 230, Brookings, SD 57006, (605) 692-6281, email@example.com.
All proposals must be submitted in accordance with the City’s budget cycle schedule and proposal format. Please note, requests may only be made during this period of time. Mid-year funding requests will not be considered. The completed application and other required documents must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office on or before June 1, 2020.
Funding decisions are made by taking into consideration:
- The ability of an applicant to provide a service or outcome that improves the quality of life for citizens of Brookings.
- The applicant providing a “but for” analysis which demonstrates the need for public assistance.
- The applicant’s ability to become self-sustaining.
- The duration of the funding commitment.
- Operating versus capital requests.
Moving forward, the City is considering a stronger partnership and collaboration with the United Way to streamline the application and funding request review process for organizations which address social and human services. Organizations which request both City of Brookings and United Way funds will be able to request funds from both entities through the United Way application process if approved by City Council at the May 12th meeting. If an organization provides social/human services and completes a request for funding through the United Way, that organization should consider waiting for the May 12th meeting results before completing the Application for City Funds. The United Way application will be available Fall 2020.
