COVID-10 Update | Emergency Ordinance Extension and Amendment Discussion

April 8, 2020

Brookings Mayor Keith Corbett and Brookings City Manager Paul Briseno discuss the extension to City of Brookings Emergency Ordinance 20-005. City of Brookings COVID-19 Emergency Ordinance 20-005 has been extended through Wednesday, May 6th. The ordinance, which addresses COVID-19 public health concerns and measures which prioritize the health and safety of the Brookings community was revisited Wednesday night April 8th, 2020 at a Special City Council meeting. City Council members unanimously voted to extend the ordinance from the original date of April 8th to May 6th. An amendment was added to the ordinance to include and address loitering in groups of ten or more. View the full ordinance, amendments, and details.

Get Involved | Brookings Art Train

The Brookings Arts Council has partnered with Mayor Keith Corbett and the City of Brookings to host a new drawing competition and activity for the residents of all ages from Brookings and surrounding communities. We have drawn a Train Engine and are asking community members to draw a "cargo" car and fill it with drawings of things that they love, things that they are doing and place this artwork in your windows.

Special City Council Meeting

March 23, 2020

The City of Brookings held a special City Council meeting, Monday, March 23rd at 6:00 p.m. to act on an emergency ordinance and resolution that addresses COVID-19 public health concerns and measures which prioritize the health and safety of the Brookings community. The ordinance addresses the implementation of local measures set to limit operations of social gathering businesses which will enforce social distancing recommendations made by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), President Donald Trump (White House), and Governor Kristi Noem. The ordinance includes prohibitions and closures which will affect the following: all restaurants, food courts, coffee houses, bars, breweries, clubs, cafes and other similar places of public accommodation offering food and beverages for on-site consumption, including any alcohol licensees with on-sale privileges, all recreational facilities, public pools, health clubs, salons, spas, athletic facilities and theaters, including movie theaters and music or entertainment venues, all cigar bars, vaping lounges or other similar businesses that allow for on-site consumption, all arcades, bingo halls, bowling alleys, indoor golf ranges, casinos, indoor climbing facilities, skating rinks, and other similar recreational or entertainment facilities.
