- Is the epidemic controlled? No. Rt was above 1.0 for 6 of the last 14 days and spread remains substantial.
- Is the health system able to cope with a resurgence of COVID-19 cases that may arise after adapting some measures? Based on current census, Brookings Health System feels they can handle the lowest of the anticipated numbers (n = 5). However, staffing will be challenged, thereby limiting the ability to sustain care for the long-term, with the highest anticipated number (n = 15).
- Is the public health surveillance system able to detect and manage the cases and their contacts, and identify a resurgence of cases in Brookings?
a. Mitigation Level: No, about 2-3 times more testing is needed for Brookings County.
b. Suppression Level: No, test positivity is 11%-30%, which is above the 3% test positivity needed for suppression.

- 10 new cases (total = 3,363 confirmed + probable) (7-day average of new cases per day = 11)
- 213 active cases
- 7-d average test positivity among people tested = 30% (10% for 7-d average based on the number of tests done; WHO recommends this to be less than 5%)
- 1 new hospitalization (total = 116 people ever hospitalized)
- No deaths (total = 32 deaths)
- Brookings Hospital as of 6pm last night (could include non-residents of Brookings County): 1 COVID beds occupied, 0 COVID ICU beds occupied
- 4.5% of Brookings County residents have received at least one vaccine
South Dakota:
- 247 new cases (total = 106,953) (7-d average for number of new cases/day = 241)
- 4,021 active cases
- 7-day average test positivity among people tested = 29% (7% for 7-d average based on the total tests done). The WHO recommends this to be less than 5%
- 18 new hospitalizations (total = 6,177 people ever hospitalized) (7-d average for new admissions/day = 20)
